I decided today to try and create some character soundtracks for each of the three main characters within the film. I think I went a bit overboard and ended up picking about 30 songs for each of the characters. I managed to whittle them down slightly but as a bit of a taster here is a few songs from each of the characters playlists.
Ailidh
The Clash - I'm not down
One of my favourite songs of all time. I think I see Ailidh having a bit of a punky side to her music collection. I can imagine Ailidh rocking out to the clash in general but for this particular song I think she would be more dancing as its got quite an upbeat more raggae style tempo.
I want to use the Clash music within the film but I need to get clearance from whoever owns their material. Hopefully they will agree to let me use the music within the film. If they do then I will be there best friend!
Blondie - One way or another
I really like the raw energy with Blondie songs and think that Ailidh would appreciate these also. I can't really put my finger on it but I think she would appreciate the intensity and honesty within Debbie Harry's lyrics.
Jacob
Manic Street Preachers - Kevin Carter
I hadn't listened to this for years but as I searched through my music library for Jacob I came across it and thought that it fitted quite well for Jacob. I can imagine him listening to it while walking over to Jacquelines house.
Joy Division - Colony
I love Joy Division and I think that Jacob would relate to their music when he is by himself. I don't think Jacob would listen to music much with others but would save it for the times when he is alone. Joy Division are so powerful and raw. I loved the film Closer about Joy Division as well. If you haven't seen it check it out.
Jacqueline
Radiohead - I want none of this
I really love this song. It is so sweet, haunting and moving. I think it really fits with how I imagine Jacqueline is feeling. Radiohead in my mind are the best band in the world. They have written lots of albums and are still the most fresh and exciting band around today. I can never imagine them selling out which to me means a lot!
Elton John - Rocket Man
This song always sounds slightly sad to me but also uplifting and hopeful at the same time. I can imagine Jacqueline listening to this when she is in a mood where she is being more positive about her life.
